The silly season is upon us, and we’re all knee-deep in baking, shopping, card-writing and caroling. Fortunately, when it comes to merry-making, our smartphones have plenty to offer. Let’s take a look at some of the best apps for a merry Christmas.
Apps for Christmas gifts
Stay on top of your shopping – and your budget – this year. The Santa’s Bag app lets you build lists of gifts and their recipients – and you can set budgets for each person and track how much you’ve spent. Combine it with The Christmas List, which lets you sync your lists to email, print them and even assign gifts to your preferred stores, and you’ll be in good stead. And if you’re running behind with your Christmas cards this year, download Inkly, which you can use to create and post real greeting cards.
Apps for hosting and entertaining
Cook up a storm with the BigOven app, which incorporates 350,000 recipes, along with a grocery list and menu planner. If you want to get Christmas-specific, there’s The Perfect Christmas Dinner app, which plates up all the classics in one easy spot, and 101 Christmas Cake Ideas for that pièce de résistance.
For getting that Christmas decor just right, try Lux, a shopping app for home decor and accents, or the trusty Houzz, the ultimate in building, remodeling and decorating. Of course, no Christmas event is complete without the requisite background music, so cue up the Christmas Radio app and listen to hits from over 50 stations. Apple Music and Spotify also never fail to bring the goods.
Christmas apps for the kids
The Peanuts crew made our Thanksgiving apps list, so it’s unsurprising that they make the Christmas list as well. This year get festive – and a bit nostalgic – with A Charlie Brown Christmas. You can also keep things (a bit) literary with the Dr Seuss Grinch Camera App, which you can use to snap and share Grinch-themed cards with friends and family. And if the littlies want to join in on the cooking fun, let them get their hands virtually dirty with the Christmas Dessert Santa Bakeshop Game.
Of course, for the youngsters, Christmas is all about a present-toting guy on a sleigh. Take the festivities up a notch with a call from the big man himself – download A Call for Santa and wait for your phone to ring. And if the kids are counting down the minutes until Santa’s reindeer swing by for their milk and cookies, try the Where’s Santa app, which tracks Santa’s journey around the world – and keeps the little ones busy with activities and puzzles.
All of the above apps will help you spread plenty of Christmas cheer, so here’s wishing you and yours a merry Christmas!
